Instagram Login, 2FA and Checkpoint Problems with Growth Tools: What to Do
Locked out, stuck on a security check, or getting 2FA codes you didn't ask for after connecting a growth tool? Steps to secure your account and choose tools more carefully.
· InstaGrowth Team
Short answer: if a growth tool has triggered login problems (unexpected security checks, 2FA codes you didn't request, or being logged out), stop the tool first. Then check where you're logged in and change your password. Next, turn on two-factor authentication in Meta's Accounts Center. Only reconnect a tool once you understand how it accesses your account. The steps are below, with the Meta pages they're based on, fetched 2026-10-16.
Source note: Instagram's own Help Center pages wouldn't load for our fetcher on 2026-10-16. [TODO: add help.instagram.com citations for checkpoint, 2FA and hacked-account steps once fetched.] The steps below rely on Meta Help Center and Transparency Center pages that did load.
Step 1: Pause the tool
Disconnect or pause any growth, scheduling or automation tool until you've finished the steps below. If the tool kept logging in during your recovery, it could trigger more checks.
Step 2: Check where you're logged in
Meta says Accounts Center's Password and security section is where you manage "your password, two-factor authentication, login alerts, login activity, and where you're logged in" (Meta Help Center, fetched 2026-10-16).
- Open Instagram → your profile → menu → Accounts Center.
- Tap Password and security → Where you're logged in.
- Log out of any session you don't recognise.
Step 3: Change your password
In the same section, set a new, unique password. If you shared your old password with a tool, assume the tool still has it until you change it.
Step 4: Turn on two-factor authentication
In Password and security → Two-factor authentication, choose a method and follow the prompts. Save backup codes somewhere offline. [TODO: confirm current method list against the Instagram Help Center]
Step 5: Review connected apps
Check your app and website permissions in settings, and remove anything you don't recognise or no longer use. [TODO: cite the Help Center path for app permissions]
Step 6: Handle the security check (checkpoint)
If Instagram asks you to confirm your identity, follow the prompts only inside the Instagram app or on instagram.com, never through links in unexpected emails or DMs. If you can't log in, Meta's Accounts Center page links to its can't-log-in help (Meta Help Center, fetched 2026-10-16).
Why this happens with some growth tools
Some tools log in as you and take actions on your behalf. Meta's Spam policy prohibits "selling, buying, or exchanging for engagement, such as likes, shares, views, follows, clicks" and says Meta may restrict accounts "when other indicators of Spam (e.g., posting repetitive content) or signals of inauthenticity are present" (transparency.meta.com, fetched 2026-10-16). Its Inauthentic Behavior policy prohibits using inauthentic accounts to deceive or to evade enforcement (transparency.meta.com, fetched 2026-10-16).
Before reconnecting any tool, run through our policy-first checklist.

Frequently asked questions
Why does Instagram ask me to confirm it's me after I connect a growth tool?
Instagram may run a security check when a login looks unusual, for example from a new device, location or app. If you didn't expect the check, treat it as a warning: secure the account before reconnecting anything.
Where do I manage two-factor authentication for Instagram?
In Meta's Accounts Center, under Password and security, which Meta says covers your password, two-factor authentication, login alerts, login activity and where you're logged in (Meta Help Center, fetched 2026-10-16).
Should I give a growth tool my Instagram password?
Be cautious. Tools built on Instagram's official login flows send you to a Meta-hosted screen to approve access instead of asking for your password. If a tool asks for your password directly, find out why before you agree.
Can growth tools get my account restricted?
Meta's Spam policy prohibits buying, selling or exchanging engagement or accounts, and it may restrict accounts that show signals of inauthenticity (transparency.meta.com, fetched 2026-10-16). Check how any tool works before you connect it.
